Both the Hurricanes and Dolphins went 20-13 one season again, with Miami’s season coming to a close in the ACC Tournament semifinals. Jacksonville won its second-straight Atlantic Sun regular-season title to automatically advance to the NIT, where it downed Arizona State on the road to advance to the second round.

Following Friday’s contest, the Hurricanes hit the road to kick off ESPN”s third annual College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon at No. 19/19 Memphis on Mon., Nov. 15, at 11:59 p.m.

HURRICANE WARNING

Seventh-year head coach Frank Haith has led Miami to 21-straight non-conference regular-season wins, dating back to Dec. 6, 2008, when UM knocked off perennial power Kentucky in Lexington.

The 2010-11 Hurricanes return nine players, including four who started all three games in the ACC Tournament — Durand Scott, Reggie Johnson, DeQuan Jones and Julian Gamble, in addition to the ACC’s three-point field goal percentage leader from one season ago in Adrian Thomas… Finishing 20-13 in 2009-10, Miami posted its second 20-win season in the last three years… Miami advanced to the ACC Tournament semifinals for the first time in school history, marking the first time UM has won two games in a conference tourney.

SNEAK PEEK

In 2010-11 preseason exhibition play, the Hurricanes went 2-0, defeating a pair of in-state opponents by an average of 47 points per game… Nine players averaged at least 15.0 minutes per game over the two contests, with five players averaging double-figure scoring — Malcolm Grant (14.0 ppg, .667 3FG%, .588 FG%), DeQuan Jones (12.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg, .625 FT%, .600 3FG%), Durand Scott (11.5 ppg, 5.0 apg, .818 FT%), rookie Rion Brown (11.0 ppg, .538 FG%, .500 3FG%) and big man Reggie Johnson (10.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg, .800 FG%, 1.000 FT%).

SUNSHINE STATE SERIES

The Hurricanes are 323-155 (.676) all-time versus in-state opponents, including a 25-10 (.714) mark under Frank Haith. Miami has won 56 of its last 70 games versus Florida schools, dating back to the 1992-93 season.

During the 2010-11 regular season, the Hurricanes are slated to face five in-state opponents six times — Jacksonville, Florida Gulf Coast, Stetson, UCF and Florida State twice.

THE SCHEDULE

Miami’s 2010-11 slate features 16 games versus 2010 postseason participants and at least 19 televised contests. At least 10 of those games will be broadcast nationally, including home contests versus North Carolina (Jan. 26, ESPN or ESPN2), Georgia Tech (Feb. 3, ESPN or ESPN2) and Duke (Feb. 13, FSN), and road games at Duke (Jan. 2, FSN) and Virginia Tech (Jan. 30, FSN). This season’s ACC lineup includes 10 games versus 2010 NCAA Tournament participants – including a home-and-away series with defending national champions Duke, Georgia Tech, Florida State and Clemson.

With a beefed-up non-conference schedule, the Hurricanes play their first road game at Memphis on Mon., Nov. 15, to kick off ESPN’s College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon, and also travel to Rutgers of the Big East. UM also adds a home game versus NIT Final Four participant Ole Miss (Nov. 30, FS-FL/NESN), before facing NCAA Final Four competitor West Virginia (Dec. 4, SUN). The Hurricanes have made several adjustments to their schedule to avoid scheduling conflicts with the Miami Heat.

LET’S GO BASKETBOWLING!

The Hurricanes raised more than $20,000 on Tuesday evening at their third annual University of Miami Men’s BasketBowl at Splitsville Lanes in Sunset Place. Fans had the opportunity to meet the team and coaching staff, bowl, enjoy dinner and refreshments, place bids for tickets and other Hurricane memorabilia and participate in a live auction for gameday experiences and team travel.
