Julian Rivera is entering his third year as a staff physical therapist in athletics working with the UM baseball team in combination as a staff physical therapist at the Lennar Medical Foundation Center on the UM Coral Gables campus.
Rivera specializes with overhead athletes. He has conducted research in the field of injury prediction for the overhead athlete, in which he continues to advance the studies in this field. Rivera also assists as a mentor within the UM Sports Physical Therapy Residency Program.
Rivera completed the UM Sports Physical Therapy Residency Program, which he graduated from in July 2018.
Rivera is a Doctor of Physical Therapy by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. Julian is a Sports Certified Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (2019), licensed and certified Athletic Trainer (2013) by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (2013) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Originally from New York, Rivera earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic training (2013) and his Doctorate of Physical Therapy (2015) from Ithaca College. Before arriving to Miami, Rivera practiced in outpatient settings in Hyde Park, N.Y., and Tampa, Fla. He also worked with the Houston Astros Gulf Coast Baseball League in Kissimmee, Fla.
