Will split time between first base and catcher this year. … Expected to spell Yasmani Grandal behind the plate in addition to serving as the team’s regular starting first baseman … Has played in 76 career games and has started 51 games at catcher … Improved his batting average from .195 as a freshman in 2007 to .289 as a sophmore in 2008 … Also saw a big power increase last year, hitting a home run every 17.8 at-bats after not hitting a single homer in 87 at-bats as a freshman … Has a career .985 fielding percentage, committing just seven errors in 481 career chances).

SOPHOMORE SEASON -2008
•Played in 41 of UM’s 64 games, starting 37 (28 at catcher, nine at DH)
•Ranked sixth on the team in slugging percentage (.514) and tied for sixth in home runs (8)
•Recorded a career-high three hits on five occasions
•Hit first career grand slam in win over Wake Forest (3/21), setting a new career-high for RBI in a game (4)
•Was successful on four of five stolen base attempts
•Recorded four hits and three RBI in the NC State series (3/14-16)
•Tallied five hits, four runs and one home run in the series win at Georgia Tech (4/12-13)

•Started all three games behind the plate against Georgia Tech (4/6-8), going 2-for-4 in the series opener and 1-for-3 with two walks in game two
•Went 2-for-5 with a run against FIU (4/4)
•Recorded best series of his freshman campaign as he hit safely in all three games against NC State (3/16-18)
•Hit .500 (5-for-10) with two RBI and a double against the Wolfpack in the series, going 2-for-3 with one RBI in the series opener, 2-for-3 with a run scored in game two and 1-for-4 with two RBI in the series finale
