Eddy Rodriquez was one of the most improved Hurricanes on the offensive side of the ball in the 2005 season … extremely hard worker who has made great strides with his hitting … listed as the No. 3 prospect in the Virginia Valley League, where he played catcher and made the all-star team for the Luray Wranglers … handles his pitchers very well … considered by the coaching staff to be one of the top defensive catchers in the country … hit .320 in 2005 after never having batted above .281 in high school … played well in a backup role in 2004, earning five starts and playing in 23 games with a .241 batting average … has a very strong throwing arm, good knowledge of the game and good receiving skills … should continue develop at the plate with more experience … was a top 100 prospect by Baseball America coming out of high school.
Sophomore (2005)
One of the most improved players on the team from 2004 … started 52 of the 55 games he played in at catcher and the remaining three as the designated hitter … hit .320 with 14 doubles, eight home runs and 33 RBI … earned All-Regional honors at catcher … named ACC Player of the Week after his performance in the Jacksonville series … threw out 11-of-31 base stealers and recorded 37 assists from behind the plate … hit a home run in three consecutive games (vs. Wake Forest 3/19-20; at FIU 3/23) … had four game-winning hits. Coral Gables Regional (6/3-5): Earned All-Regional honors at catcher after going 5-for-12 with an extra-base hit in every game … was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored against Virginia Commonwealth … scored a run and went 2-for-3 with a double against Mississippi State (6/4) … hit a solo home run in the seventh inning of the Regional Championship against Miss. St. ACC Tournament (5/25-26): Went a combined 2-for-5 in two games, batting in both of Miami’s runs in the tournament … accounted for Miami’s only run against Clemson with a solo home run to right field in the sixth inning. At Clemson (5/19-21): Went 0-for-7 in the series. At Virginia (5/13-15): Went 1-for-10 in the series with two runs and a double. Vs. Jacksonville (5/6-8): Posted his best series performance of the season to earn ACC Player of the Week honors … was 10-for-12 in the series with five runs scored, four RBI and two home runs … was 3-for-3 in the series opener with a home run … went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI … closed out the series going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Vs. Maryland (4/29-5/1): Hit safely in all three games, batting in three runs in the final game of the series and was 4-for-11 in the three games. Vs. Florida State (4/22-24): Tied the game with a two-out, two-run single in the eighth inning to spark a five-run rally, and scored the eventual game-winning run. At North Carolina (4/15-17): Recorded a hit in all three games and totaled three runs in the series. At Virginia Tech (4/8-10): Went 1-for-3 in the final game of the series with a run scored. Vs. Oral Roberts (3/31-4/3): Three of his four hits in the series were doubles … batted in three runs in a 17-6 win on April 1 … went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles in the series’ final game. Vs. Georgia Tech (3/25-3/27): Batted .600 (6-for-10) in the series, including a combined 6-for-7 effort in the final two games … knocked in three runs in the second game of the series, including a solo home run in the fourth inning … At FIU (3/23): Went 2-for-3 with two runs scored … hit a home run for the third consecutive game. At Wake Forest (3/18-20): Hit .600 in the series with two doubles, two home runs, five runs and five RBIs … hit a double and a home run in each of the final two games of the series … went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the series finale … Vs. Duke (3/11-13): Went 2-for-9 with two runs and an RBI in the series. Vs. N.C. State (3/4-6): Came off the bench in the first two games of the series … started the final game and went 1-for-3. Vs. George Washington (2/25-27): Did not play in the series opener … went 2-for-4 in the series finale.
