No. 13 Miami Advances Two Boats to Petite Finals at NCAA Championships

GAINESVILLE, Ga. – After a record-breaking morning of racing at the NCAA Championships, the 13th-ranked Miami Hurricanes rowing team returned to the course at Lake Lanier Olympic Park on Friday afternoon and advanced two boats to the championship regatta’s Petite Finals.

Both Miami’s second varsity eight and first varsity four, which qualified for their respective A/B semifinals, will compete in Sunday’s Petite Finals. The first varsity eight, which competed in the C/D semifinals, advanced to the C Final.

The Hurricanes’ 1V8+ crew of Scarlett Pringle, Naroa Zubimendi Varela, Jovana Stanivuk, Samantha Premerl, Mallory Sullivan, Esther Fuerte Chacón, Candela Martínez Pernas, Maria Sole Perugino and Beatrice Ravini Perelli opened the afternoon session for the Hurricanes with a time of 6:21.23 and posted a second-place finish in its semifinal, crossing the finish line ahead of Northeastern, Boston University and Massachusetts.

Miami’s second race of the afternoon featured the 2V8 crew of Anna Langemann, Paula Espinosa Linares, Felipa Rosas Villalobos, Sara Caterisano, Agostina Manzotti Scolari, Kylie Evenson, Jane Elsner, Camila Cofré Lopez and Gabriela Snopková, which crossed the finish line of its semifinal in sixth place with a time of 6:27.12.

The Hurricanes’ finished their day on Lake Lanier when the 1V4 crew of Maria Mastrando, Nicole Wyszynski, Holly Prichard, Grace Gaskill and Layla Jolley posted a sixth-place finish in its semi with a time of 7:24.96.

“Semifinals at NCAA’s are always some of the most compelling races this sport has to offer,” Hurricanes head coach James Mulcahy said. “From a results-on-paper standpoint, obviously, this was not our best set of results. However, us getting to line up against the top teams in the country and experience firsthand their speed was a great step in our team’s development. All of our crews will race in the correct finals on Sunday, and they are all looking forward to having their best performances then.”

The Hurricanes will conclude their historic season on Sunday when they compete in the finals of the NCAA Championships.
