CRCA Honors 11 Hurricanes for Efforts in Classroom
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Eleven members of the Miami Hurricanes rowing team were recognized as winners of the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete Award, the organization announced.
To be eligible for the award, honorees must be in their second, third, fourth or fifth year of eligibility, must have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher through the end of the fall semester/winter quarter and must have either participated in at least 75 percent of their team’s spring races or competed in an NCAA boat at either their conference championships or the NCAA Championships.
In all, the CRCA recognized 1,174 rowers nationwide for their accomplishments on the water and in the classroom.
“Balancing the demands of collegiate rowing and academics requires tremendous commitment, discipline and support,” said Janet Raymer, the CRCA’s Executive Director. “These 1,174 scholar-athletes have demonstrated excellence not only in competition, but also in the classroom. Their achievements reflect the dedication of the student-athletes themselves, as well as the coaches, teammates, faculty, and families who help support their success.”
The Hurricanes are coming off their first appearance at the NCAA Championships, where they finished 13th overall in the 22-team field.
