Canes Advance Three Boats to Grand Finals at ACC Championship
RALEIGH, N.C. – The 14th-ranked Hurricanes rowing team opened racing at the ACC Championship on Friday with a solid showing, advancing three of five boats to Saturday’s Grand Finals.
Miami’s first varsity eight, second varsity eight, and third varsity eight all posted top three finishes in their respective qualifying heats to earn their spots in the finals.
The 1V8 crew of Scarlett Pringle, Naroa Zubimendi Varela, Jovana Stanivuk, Samantha Premerl, Mallory Sullivan, Esther Fuerte Chacón, Candela Martínez Pernas, Maria Sole Perugino and Beatrice Ravini Perelli carried its regular-season momentum into the conference championship, posting a time of 6:17.64 to beat Clemson, Louisville and Notre Dame.
That marked another new program record for the 1V8, besting the mark of 6:18.81 set by the same crew at last month’s Lake Wheeler Invitational.
Miami’s 2V8 crew of Anna Langemann, Paula Espinosa Linares, Felipa Rosas Villalobos, Sara Caterisano, Agostina Manzotti Scolari, Kylie Evenson, Jane Elsner, Camila Cofré Lopez and Gabriela Snopková also earned a spot in tomorrow’s Grand Finals with its time of 6:27.32, which was good enough for a third-place finish just behind defending ACC and national champion Stanford and tenth-ranked Syracuse.
Also advancing was the 3V8 crew of Loran Graves, Sophia Kovachik, Mia Pappano, Isabella Raemisch, Lauren Bricca, Sophia Genelhu-Bazan, Charlotte Maschoff, Catherine Casey, and Krista Jackson, which opened racing for the Hurricanes on Friday with a time of 6:47.73 to best Louisville, No. 13 Duke, and SMU.
“We’re proud of how everyone represented Miami today and we look forward to using the rest of the day to properly recover and pursue avenues of improvement for the finals tomorrow,” Miami head coach James Mulcahy said.
The Hurricanes will return to Lake Wheeler on Saturday to close out racing at the conference championship regatta.
