Noel Punches Ticket to NCAA Quarterfinals with Dominant Sweet 16 Win

STILLWATER, Okla. Alexa Noel earned a dominant round of 16 victory to punch her ticket to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship on Wednesday afternoon at the Greenwood Tennis Center.

Noel, ranked No. 10 and seeded eighth, inked her name in the Miami record book after a 6-1, 6-2 win against North Carolina’s No. 31 Anika Yarlagadda to make her one of 12 Hurricanes to reach the Elite Eight and the first one since Estela Perez-Somarriba, who won the 2019 national title and advanced to the final in 2021.

The Summit, N.J., native controlled the match from start to finish, only allowing three games to the Tar Heel. Miami is now 103-64 all-time in the NCAA Singles Championship.

Noel will take on No. 29 Alexandra Yepifanova from Stanford in the Elite Eight tomorrow, battling for a spot in the Final Four. In their last meeting Noel defeated Yepifanova, 7-6 (4), 6-2 in the round of 16 of the ITA All-American Championships.
