Hurricanes Drop 1-0 Result at No. 1 North Carolina
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Miami Hurricanes soccer team came up short to No. 1 North Carolina, 1-0, at Dorrance Field Thursday evening.
The Tar Heels (9-0-4, 4-0-1 ACC) scored their lone tally in the 16th minute. Emily Colton’s first goal of the season proved to be the difference, as North Carolina remained one of only eight unbeaten teams nationally.
Miami (3-5-3, 2-3 ACC) kept UNC on its heels over the final 20 minutes.
Off of a free kick, midfielder Julia Edwards‘ shot attempt went just above the crossbar.
Then, in the closing moments, the Hurricanes ramped up the pressure nearly finding an equalizer, but Miami’s last push wasn’t enough to upend North Carolina.
In the defeat, Melissa Dagenais posted eight saves, holding the top-ranked Tar Heels under their season average in goals.
Up next, the Hurricanes head to No. 11 Notre Dame. Sunday’s showdown is slated for 1 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
