Walters Makes NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — University of Miami closer Andrew Walters was named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award watch list, the organization announced Thursday.
The watch list features 81 of the sport’s top relief pitchers. Relievers who are not on the preseason watch list still have an opportunity to be tabbed a finalist for the award.

A finalist for the prestigious honor in 2022, Walters tallied an ACC-best 14 saves, which ranked fifth nationally and 10th all-time in a single campaign at Miami. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound right-hander posted a 1.65 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .116 average.
The Palm Bay, Fla., native recorded 62 strikeouts and six walks over 32 2/3 innings. He began his standout sophomore season with 22 2/3 scoreless frames.
Walters, who is a consensus preseason All-American, leads all returning Power Five arms in WHIP (0.58) and opponent batting average, among pitchers who threw at least 25 innings at the Division I level a year ago.
Walters and the 22nd-ranked Hurricanes open their 2023 campaign against Penn State Friday at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
