Martin Earns Back-To-Back ACC Player of Week Honors

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the second straight week, University of Miami men’s tennis player Dan Martin was named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league Tuesday.

Martin is the first Hurricane to earn back-to-back player of the week honors since Luigi D’Agord in 2006. D’Agord went on to win ACC Player of the Year that season.

As a team, the Hurricanes went 2-0 over the weekend, taking down No. 58 Georgia Tech and No. 67 Clemson on Thursday and Sunday, respectively. Martin went 4-0 across singles and doubles and was the deciding match in both contests, with both singles matches being three-set thrillers.

With match on the line (3-3) at Georgia Tech, Martin bested No. 64 Andres Martin after being down 6-7 (2), 2-5 in the second set. He completed the incredible comeback one game at a time for his sixth win over a nationally-ranked opponent this season.

Martin currently sits at 24-7 overall in singles play this year and is 6-2 against top-125 opponents. At first singles, he holds an impressive 13-2 record.

In doubles, Martin took care of business alongside partner Bojan Jankulovski, going 2-0 on the weekend. Since becoming a doubles pair in early March, Martin and Jankulovski are a perfect 7-0.

With the 6-3 doubles victory over Clemson’s Jorge Plans Gonzalez and Daniel Labrador, Martin eclipsed the 20-win mark in doubles action this season, joining an elite group of Hurricanes who recorded 20-plus singles wins and 20-plus doubles victories in the same season. He becomes the 17th player to do so and first since Christian Langmo in 2017-18.

Overall, the Laval, Quebec, Canada native holds a 20-7 record in doubles play.

Martin and the seventh-seeded Hurricanes are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Rome, Ga., to take on the No. 10 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the second round of the ACC Championships. The match is slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. and the winner will face No. 2 Wake Forest on Friday.
