NCAA Individual Championship Draws Released
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The brackets are set for the 2021 NCAA Singles Championship and NCAA Doubles Championship, as announced Saturday morning.
Top-ranked and second-seeded Estela Perez-Somarriba, a fifth-year senior, will begin her national title defense Sunday at 4 p.m. against No. 42 Salma Ewing of USC.
Thirty minutes later, Isabella Pfennig, a freshman ranked No. 10 and seeded No. 9-16, will open her first NCAA Singles Championship appearance with a matchup against No. 35 Anna Turati of Texas.
The NCAA Doubles Championship, in which Miami also has two entrants, starts Monday. Times have yet to be determined, but the matchups are finalized.
Perez-Somarriba and Pfennig, who are ranked No. 22 as a duo, will take on UCLA’s Elysia Bolton and Jada Hart, ranked No. 59, in the opening round.
Meanwhile, second-year freshmen Diana Khodan and Maya Tahan, ranked No. 14 as a tandem, will begin their first NCAA individual championship berth by taking on Texas A&M’s No. 20-ranked pair of Jayci Goldsmith and Tatiana Makarova.
