Men’s Tennis Heads West to Face FGCU
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team returns to the FGCU Tennis Complex in Fort Meyers, Fla., to face Florida Gulf Coast in its final non-conference match before ACC competition gets underway.
The Hurricanes (6-2) will take on the Eagles at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Live stats will not be accessible during the match.
Miami sports a 2-1 all-time record in its series with FGCU, however the Hurricanes will face the Eagles in Fort Meyers for the first time. Under the direction of fourth-year head coach, UM is 1-0 against FGCU, winning the most recent matchup on Feb. 25, 2017, 4-3.
Entering the weekend, the Hurricanes are riding a two-match winning streak, most recently earning home sweeps over South Alabama (7-0) and Florida Atlantic (7-0). Miami is represented by a quartet of student-athletes in the Oracle/ITA national rankings, as sophomore Franco Aubone teams up with junior Benjamin Hannestad to form the nation’s 14th-ranked tandem, while sophomore Francisco Bastias and junior Adria Soriano Barrera are ranked 46th. In singles, Soriano Barrera checks in at No. 32.
The Eagles, currently 3-3 on the year, also enter the contest riding a two-match winning streak, topping Bethune-Cookman (4-0) and DePaul (5-2). FGCU does not have any players ranked in the national polls.
Following Saturday’s matchup, the Hurricanes will open conference action with a pair of road trips to Clemson, S.C., and Atlanta. Miami will kick things off at 6 p.m. on Feb. 21 against Clemson before taking on Georgia Tech at noon two days later.
