Miami sports a 6-3 all-time record in its series with South Alabama, with the Hurricanes winning their lone matchup between the two squads under the direction of fourth-year head coach Aljosa Piric. On March 30, 2018, UM secured a 4-1 home victory over the Jaguars, with juniors Adria Soriano Barrera, Bojan Jankulovski and Tatsuki Shimamoto each collecting singles triumphs to seal the team win.
Entering the weekend, Soriano Barrera represents the Hurricanes in the Oracle/ITA national singles rankings at No. 32. In doubles, sophomore Franco Aubone and junior Benjamin Hannestad check in at No. 14, while sophomore Francisco Bastias teams up with the Barcelona, Spain, native to form the nation’s 46th ranked tandem.
Since the start of the 2018 campaign Miami boasts a 26-3 overall mark at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center, including posting an unblemished 18-0 record against non-conference foes.
The Jaguars, currently 2-3 on the year, enter the match winning their most recent pair of contests over Lamar (4-0) and Nicholls State (6-1). South Alabama does not have any players ranked in the national polls.
Following Friday’s matchup, the Hurricanes will welcome Florida Atlantic to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center Sunday at noon.
