Friday Results

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. Two members of the University of Miami women’s tennis team, Nada Dimovska and Lucia Marzal, started action Friday at the ITA Hall of Fame Classic.

Marzal picked up a straight-set triumph to headline the results at William & Mary’s McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.

“We have to keep driving the right plays in doubles and continue to improve our mindset for more points in a row,” Miami associate head coach Laura Vallverdu said. “Looking for a well put together day tomorrow from both players.”

The day started with a tightly-contested doubles match in which the Hurricanes came up just short. Dimovska and Marzal fell to William & Mary’s Natalia Perry and Mila Saric, 6-8.

In singles, Marzal, a sophomore from Valencia, Spain, edged VCU Gabriela Ana-Maria Davidescu’s in a first-set tiebreaker and a close second set for a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 victory.

Dimovksa’s tilt with VCU’s Luminita Tutunaru needed a 10-point tiebreaker to determine a winner, with the Miami freshman coming a few points shy of the win. Dimovska ended up dropping a 6-4, 4-6, 0-1 (7-10) result.

Action will resume Saturday at 9 a.m., with Marzal and Dimovska playing doubles against a duo from VCU. They will then take the court for singles matches against opponents from West Virginia at 1:30 p.m.
