Four Canes to Conclude Fall Play at Texas Invitational
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The last tournament of the fall season is here for four members of the University of Miami women’s tennis team.
Sophomore Daevenia Achong, freshman Selma Cadar, freshman Nada Dimovska and senior Yuna Ito will all wrap up their 2019 fall campaigns this weekend at the Texas Invitational.
“We’ve been training hard these past few weeks and our team chemistry, mixed with team spirit, is in a good place,” Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “We’re traveling to a tough Texas tournament with strong competition and every match will be a battle. We want our girls to play free, play aggressively and just enjoy the competition. Personally, [I think] we’ve made a lot of strides and it’s to try to implement them.”
Miami is one of sixteams set to take part in the action at the Texas Tennis Center, including one of two from outside the Lone Star State. The Hurricanes are joined by Rice, SMU, Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M.
Achong and Cadar are the top seed in the doubles draw and have a bye into the quarterfinals, while Dimovska and Ito are unseeded, but also have a bye.
The singles players will be split into two brackets, with draws still to be determined. Action in both doubles and singles is set to start Friday and run through Sunday.
No live scoring or live video will be available for the Texas Invitational, but final scores will be posted HERE as matches end.
