Langmo Captures First Pro Singles Crown
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Recent University of Miami graduate and former men’s tennis standout Christian Langmo made his presence felt on the professional stage last week, capturing his first career singles crown.
Battling stiff competition at the Cancun Tennis Cup in Cancun, Mexico, the four-year letter winner defeated France’s Jean Thirouin in straight sets to win his first pro tournament. Langmo cruised past the competition without dropping a single set in his five matches.
In the Round of 32, Langmo dominated Mexico’s Ricardo David Mayagoitia, 6-0, 6-0, before topping Great Britain’s Jack Gibbens, 6-4, 6-3, in the Round of 16.
The Boca Raton, Fla., native then earned a straight-set victory in the quarterfinals over fellow American Aron Pierce, 6-4, 6-4, before locking up a spot in the finals after defeating [four-seed] Maximiliano Estevez of Argentina in the opening set, 7-5. In the second set, Langmo held a 4-3 lead prior to Estevez retiring from the match.
Entering play as the eight-seed, Langmo capped off a dominant tournament run with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Thirouin.
Following the tournament victory, Langmo now holds his highest career rankings, rising to No. 277 in the ITF World singles rankings and No. 640 in the ATP and boasts a 30-21 mark in the ATP Tour and ITF World Tennis Tour main draw.
