Pair of Men’s Tennis Freshmen Named to ACC All-Academic Team
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Franco Aubone and Francisco Bastias of the University of Miami men’s tennis team were selected to the 2019 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Team, as announced Friday by the league office.
Aubone, who is a freshman majoring in international finance and marketing, finished the 2018-19 season with 19 singles victories and a 21-14 doubles record. In conference action, Aubone posted a team-best 5-2 singles mark along with an 8-2 doubles campaign. Teaming up with Bastias in doubles, the duo garnered ACC Doubles Team of the Week honors on March 19.
In the classroom, the San Juan, Argentina, native has made the Dean’s list (minimum 3.5 GPA) twice, as well as earned President’s Honor Roll (4.0) accolades once.
Majoring in international finance and marketing, Bastias capped his freshman campaign earning Book Buster Club (minimum 3.0 GPA) honors in both semesters and AD Honor Roll (minimum 3.2 GPA) accolades once.
On the hardcourt, the Mendoza, Argentina, native garnered All-ACC Third Team honors following a successful first-year playing a majority of the spring matches at the No. 2 singles position. Over the course of the 2018-19 season, he went 19-12 in singles action and 21-9 in doubles action. In addition to collecting ACC Doubles Team of the Week accolades on March 19, Bastias earned ACC Player of the Week honors on Feb. 26.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
