W. Tennis Moves to No. 19 in Oracle/ITA Rankings
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team continued its ascent up the national rankings Tuesday.
Miami checks in at No. 19 on the Oracle/ITA list, good for a two-spot improvement. The Hurricanes have now jumped 10 positions over the last four ranking releases.
Last week, Miami went 2-1 at the ACC Championship in North Carolina, logging a 5-1 triumph over Virginia Tech and then a 4-2 decision over then-ninth-ranked NC State, before falling, 4-0, to second-ranked North Carolina in the semifinals.
The ACC again features seven top-25 teams, as the Hurricanes are joined by top-ranked North Carolina, fourth-ranked Duke, No. 10 Florida State, No. 12 NC State, No. 21 Virginia and No. 22 Wake Forest.
Additionally, Syracuse comes in at No. 31, while Georgia Tech places No. 39, Boston College is No. 42 and Notre Dame is No. 48, giving the league 11 ranked teams.
In singles, Estela Perez-Somarriba is the second-ranked player in the country for the sixth consecutive time. She now trails Georgia’s Katarina Jokic by just 1.15 points after being 15.23 points behind her when she took over the second position March 5.
Miami’s doubles duo of freshman Daevenia Achong and senior Daniella Roldan retained their position at No. 16 in the Oracle/ITA rankings. It ties the season-best mark they set last week.
The Hurricanes are off this week before the NCAA Team Championship opening rounds May 3-5. The field for the tournament will be announced April 29 at 6:30 p.m.
