Miami Faces NC State in ACC Championship Quarterfinals
CARY, N.C. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team will make its eighth appearance in the ACC Championship quarterfinals Friday morning against fourth-seeded NC State.
Fifth seeded and No. 29-ranked Miami (17-9, 7-5 ACC) is set to square off with the No. 20-ranked Wolfpack at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center at 9 a.m. Live stats can be found HERE.
In a series that dates back to 1936, the Hurricanes sport a 16-8 all-time mark against NC State. A week removed from facing off in Raleigh, N.C., Miami will look to avenge a 4-1 road loss on April 11.
Following Thursday’s 4-0 sweep of Clemson, Miami advanced to the ACC Championship quarterfinals for the first time since 2011. Overall, Miami is 10-14 at the ACC Championship and 2-2 under the direction of third-year head coach Aljosa Piric.
Miami is led by a pair of sophomores featured on the national singles list, with Adria Soriano Barrera coming in at No. 42 and Bojan Jankulovski ranked No. 81.
Under the direction of second-year head coach Kyle Spencer, NC State (17-9, 8-4 ACC) enters the contest riding a three-match winning streak.
The Wolfpack is represented by Alexis Galarneau in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings, as the junior is listed at No. 21. In doubles, Galarneau pairs up with Michael Ogden to form the nation’s 42nd-ranked tandem.
The victor of Saturday’s contest will take on either top-seeded and fourth-ranked Wake Forest or ninth-seeded and No. 23 Notre Dame in the semifinals Saturday at 10 a.m. Heading into Friday’s match, the Hurricanes are looking to reach the semifinals for the fourth time and first since 2009.
