Soriano Barrera Rises 13 Spots in Singles
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Jumping 13 spots in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings, University of Miami men’s tennis sophomore Adria Soriano Barrera sits at No. 42 nationally, as announced Tuesday afternoon.
Adding 3.02 points to his average from last week, the Barcelona, Spain, native ranks 12th among ACC individuals and achieved the second-largest leap among current top-45 individuals, behind Texas A&M’s Juan Carlos Aguilar’s 16-position increase to No. 30.
Joining Soriano Barrera in the singles rankings, sophomore Bojan Jankulovski holds the No. 81 spot for the second straight week after securing a dominating 6-0, 6-3 win over NC State’s Yannai Barkai.
As a team, Miami (16-9, 7-5 ACC) enters postseason action as the nation’s No. 29 squad. Over the weekend, the Hurricanes locked up a top-five seed in the ACC Championship for the first time since 2011 and just the fourth time since joining the conference prior to the 2004-05 season.
On Thursday at 9 a.m., the Hurricanes will hit the court at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C., squaring off against the winner of Wednesday’s opening round between 12th-seeded Clemson and 13th-seeded Boston College.
Overall, the Canes are one of nine ACC teams in the rankings this week, including fourth-ranked Wake Forest, fifth-ranked Virginia, ninth-ranked North Carolina, No. 20 NC State, No. 23 Notre Dame, No. 31 Florida State, No. 41 Georgia Tech and No. 47 Virginia Tech.
