Soriano Barrera and Jankulovski Move up the Rankings

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – In this week’s edition of the Oracle/ITA national singles rankings, a pair of University of Miami men’s tennis sophomores climbed the leaderboard, as Adria Soriano Barrera checks in at No. 19 and Bojan Jankulovski ranks No. 71.

Going a perfect 2-0 in a pair of ACC matches, Soriano Barrera rose five positions from the most recent Feb. 20 release.

Kicking things off with a top-40 triumph over then-No. 36 Carlos Divar, now No. 30, of Georgia Tech, 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), the Barcelona, Spain, native followed it up with a, 6-4, 6-2, win over Clemson’s Simon Baudry to secure the team victory.

Most recently, the sophomore squared off against then-No. 22 Gabriel Decamps, now No. 18, of UCF on Sunday, with the pair all knotted up at 6-4, 5-7, 2-2 in the third set, before the match was halted.

Competing at No. 3 singles for the Hurricanes, Jankulovski went 1-1 in conference action, taking down Clemson’s Yizhou Liu, 6-4, 6-3.

In addition, Miami (8-4, 2-0 ACC) sits at No. 43 as a team in the national rankings.

The Canes are one of eight ACC teams in the rankings this week, including second-ranked Wake Forest, fourth-ranked Virginia, sixth-ranked North Carolina, No. 13 Notre Dame, No. 35 NC State, No. 37 Florida State and No. 46 Louisville.

The Hurricanes will hit the road Sunday at 5 p.m. when they return to the USTA National Campus and its Collegiate Center for a neutral-site contest against No. 37 Florida State.
