W. Tennis Ranked No. 18, Perez-Somarriba Seventh

CORAL GABLES, Fla. As has been the case all season, the University of Miami women’s tennis team is top-20 in the Oracle/ITA national rankings.

Miami (6-2, 0-1 ACC) checks in at No. 18 in the country in the new rankings, as announced Wednesday afternoon by the ITA. This is the first computer-generated list of 2019 after the prior polls were done by voters.

The Hurricanes dropped their lone match last week, coming up short in a 5-2 decision Saturday at Florida State, then No. 20 and now No. 12.

There are once again seven ACC teams in the top 25: second-ranked North Carolina, third-ranked Duke, No. 12 Florida State, No. 14 Virginia, No. 18 Miami, No. 23 NC State and No. 25 Syracuse. In addition, Georgia Tech is No. 31, Wake Forest is No. 33 and Boston College is No. 36 in the newly-extended rankings.

Miami has one player featured in the individual rankings, as junior Estela Perez-Somarriba checks in at seventh nationally. The reigning ACC Player of the Year is 8-2 this spring, including 7-0 in dual matches.

The Hurricanes, for the first time in 2018-19, do not have any doubles pairs featured in the Oracle/ITA rankings.

Miami resumes play Sunday at 2 p.m., as it welcomes third-ranked Duke to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center for its ACC home opener.
