W. Tennis Hosts No. 20 Texas Tech in Top-20 Clash

CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami women’s tennis team is set play its second consecutive Big 12 opponent Saturday afternoon.

No. 17 Miami (5-1) will square off with No. 20 Texas Tech (3-2) at 1 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Live stats for the top-20 affair can be found HERE.

The Hurricanes have met the Lady Raiders just once before, dropping a narrow 4-3 decision on Feb. 6, 2016 at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Madison, Wis.

Miami heads into the weekend with one ranked singles player in fourth-ranked Estela Perez-Somarriba. The Madrid native is the highest-ranked junior and highest-ranked ACC player in the county.

In doubles, junior Yuna Ito and sophomore Ulyana Shirokova check in at No. 33 in the Oracle/ITA rankings.

Texas Tech sports a 3-2 record in 2019, with both of its losses on the road to top-15 foes. The Lady Raiders also have one ranked singles player in Felicity Maltby, who comes in at No. 30.

On the doubles side, Kennedy Bridgforth and Lana Rush hold the No. 32 position, while Maltby and Nell Miller place No. 40.

After taking on Texas Tech, Miami opens ACC action with a matchup against the team Texas Tech is tied with at No. 20 in the rankings, Florida State. The Hurricanes and Seminoles will play Feb. 16 at noon in Tallahassee, Fla.
