Soriano Barrera Advances to Round of 16
SURPRISE, Ariz. – Adria Soriano Barrera of the University of Miami men’s tennis team picked up his sixth win in seven matches to advance through to the Round of 16 at the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.
Ranked No. 41, Soriano Barrera opened play Thursday morning at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex, against No. 47 Harrison Scott of Texas. The sophomore started off strong, claiming the opening set, 6-4.
In the second set, Scott out-dueled Soriano Barrera, 6-4, to set up the second consecutive third-set tiebreaker in the Grand Canyon State for the Miami sophomore.
In the final set, the Barcelona, Spain, native found himself trailing 2-1, before rallying off five consecutive games to win the match, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
Friday, at a time to be determined, Soriano Barrera returns to the court to take on No. 115 Will Little of Baylor.
On the opposite side of the bracket, No. 92 Bojan Jankulovski came up short against USC’s Daniel Cukierman, ranked 31st nationally and seeded sixth, 2-6, 1-6.
The Skopje, Macedonia closes out the fall portion of his sophomore campaign with a 7-3 singles mark.

Sunday’s tournament final in the Grand Canyon State will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and then re-aired on ESPNU two days later, Nov. 13, at 5 p.m. ET. The victor will receive a main draw wild card berth to a 2019 Oracle Challenger Series event.
