Six Hurricanes to Compete in Texas
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team is set to compete in the final tournament of the fall season, when six student-athletes participate in the Longhorn Invitational at the Texas Tennis Center in Austin, Texas.
Play will start Friday morning at 10 a.m. ET with one round of doubles, followed by two rounds of singles. Tournament action will continue all day Saturday before concluding on Sunday afternoon.
The Hurricanes will face student-athletes from 16 participating schools, including Auburn, Baylor, Iowa, Liberty, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisville, LSU, Marquette, Rice, St. Edward’s, TCU, Texas Tech, Tyler Junior College, Tulane, UCF and tournament host, Texas.
In doubles action, sophomore Tatsuki Shimamoto and freshman Francisco Bastias will team up against Auburn’s Tad Maclean and Brandon Laubser in the Flight B Gold Draw. Meanwhile, a quartet of Canes will take part in the Flight C Gold Draw. Redshirt junior Dane Dunlap and junior Stephen Madonia battle Texas’ Johnny Goodwin and LSU’s Ruy Teixeira, while freshmen Franco Aubone and Kaya Gore face Liberty’s Ian Sturgill and Farid Juri.
Singles action is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. ET, with Bastias matching up against TCU’s Bertus Kruger in the Flight A Gold Draw.
Competing in the Flight B Gold Draw, Dunlap will square off against Marcus Walters of Tyler Junior College at noon, while Gore battles Nicaise Muamba of Liberty at 12:30 p.m. ET.
At 1 p.m. ET, Aubone will face Chase Burton of Liberty in the Flight C Gold Draw, while Madonia takes on Tad Maclean of Auburn at 1:30 p.m. ET.
Shimamoto is set to face Tyler Junior College’s Karl Mosterd in the Flight D Gold Round of 16 at 2:15 p.m. ET.
