Swim / Dive Wraps Up Trip to Dallas
DALLAS — The University of Miami wrapped up its trip to the SMU Classic on Saturday afternoon, finishing the weekend in fifth place with 227.5 points.
Once again, redshirt sophomore Alicia Blagg delivered a strong performance for the Hurricanes on the boards. The standout diver, who captured first place in the 1-meter on Friday night, took second in the 3-meter (313.35), finishing just behind Virginia’s Sydney Dusel (319.55), who took first.
Miami’s entry in the 200-yard medley relay, comprised of senior tri-captain Roxanne Yu, freshman Coco Hull, freshman Zorry Mason and sophomore Sydney Knapp, opened the day’s action with a time of 1:43.70.
Freshman Maria Artigas Fernandez, who delivered one of the best times in UM history in the 400 IM Friday night, competed in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.92) while Mason took fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.33).
Yu tied Hannah Burvill of Iowa for a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.11), and junior Manon Viguier, who returned to action this week after missing Miami’s opening weekend of competition, captured fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (49.85).
Mason, who has been among Miami’s top point-getters in her first season, took fifth in the 200 IM, touching the wall in a time of 2:03.32.
The Hurricanes’ 200 free relay team – Viguier, Hull, sophomore Carmen San Nicolas Martinez and Knapp – ended the weekend with a fifth-place finish (1:34.07).
Miami returns home for a week of preparation before heading to Atlanta for meets hosted by Georgia Tech on Oct. 19 and Oct. 20. Miami will face off against the host Jackets, FGCU and SCAD on Friday and will battle the Jackets and Notre Dame on Saturday.
