Introducing U: Alexa Ferreira

Introducing U: Alexa Ferreira

CORAL GABLES, Fla.  The second transfer to join the University of Miami soccer team in as many years, Alexa Ferreira began her time at The U in July after opening her career at Rutgers.

Ferreira, a 5-foot-3-inch midfielder who attended Watchung Hills Regional, sat down with HurricaneSports.com to detail what her adjustments to Miami  have been, among other topics . . .

Q: To start off, you have been at Miami for about a month now. How has the experience been thus far?
A: It has been really good. I have definitely gotten used to the heat. That has probably been the biggest difference. Also, the team and everything has been really good and really, it is like a family atmosphere.

Q: What has been the most enjoyable aspect?
A: Definitely playing, now that the season is officially underway. And I am just excited to play in the ACC.

Q: After spending a year at Rutgers, what advantages does that year of collegiate experience have?
A: I have a year of experience, where I had the opportunity to play a lot. And just knowing the college level, I think I have a little bit more knowledge of what to expect.

Q: How would you describe yourself as a soccer player?
A: I’d say I am a leader and very competitive.

Q: What are your goals for this season?
A: I definitely want us to have a really good season, in terms of winning games and getting into the ACC Tournament. And ultimately, just taking it one match at a time.

Q: What made you decide Miami was the school for you?
A: I definitely knew that I wanted to play in the ACC, and when I came down here I got the chance to meet the staff. I would say for sure that I am blessed that they gave me the opportunity to come down here and transfer. From every school I have been to, this is definitely the most beautiful.

Q: You have had a few months to get to know head coach Sarah Barnes and assistant coaches Alan Fread and Jeremy Williams. How have they been and what have you learned from them so far?
A: Awesome. They are so enthusiastic; so positive. They always want to do what is best for you. They are really trying to make a difference here, by changing the culture. I knew coming in here that it was definitely going to be a big change, and I am happy to be a part of it.
