Introducing U: Sierra Frey

Introducing U: Sierra Frey

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Hailing from the Bear, Del., freshman defender Sierra Frey of the University of Miami soccer team went south after graduating high school, looking for a different experience.

HurricaneSports.com caught up with the 5-foot-8-inch freshman out of Caravel Academy to chat about a variety of subjects, including what she has like most since joining in the spring . . .

Q: You have been at UM for almost seven full months now. How has it been so far?
A: It has been great, honestly. I definitely have made a lot of friendships and everything. I love that I was able to come early and meet the girls. Everything so far has been really good, team dynamic wise. And I think this season is going to be really good, from what I have seen last season.

Q: Having the chance to work alongside four other incoming freshman in the spring, how important was that?
A: It was good. We definitely got close because we were able to come together. We all were new, so we were able to learn the basics and everything as a group. And we are even closer now since coming back.

Q: What has been your favorite part about Miami thus far?
A: The weather and the campus for sure. It’s absolutely beautiful here, because I am from Delaware, sooo big difference. [laughs]

Q: What are you most excited for about your UM career, and goals for this season?
A: Honestly, just getting ready to play, and being able to play in the ACC against the top players. As for goals, it would be great to make the ACC Tournament this year and improve on last year.

Q: You have had a few months to get to know head coach Sarah Barnes and assistant coaches Alan Fread and Jeremy Williams. How have they been and what have you learned from them so far?
A: They are really great. They are so open and honest with you, and I love being able to go talk to them whenever I need to. And they have definitely helped our team get in the right mindset for this upcoming season, as well as, moving forward.

Q: What are your main strengths as a player?
A: Probably my speed, and being able to move out of the back fast in order to get the ball forward.

Q: What do you think you need to work on the most?
A: Definitely being able to use my height more to my advantage, and playing balls out of the air.

Q: Do you know what you want to major in and, if so, how did you decide that?
A: Biomedical engineering. I wanted to get into it because I wanted to be able to help people in the future. So I wanted to go into prosthetics and be able to help people that way.
