W. Tennis Earns ITA Academic Awards
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The ITA announced Tuesday its 2018 academic recognitions and the University of Miami women’s tennis team was heavily represented.
For the fourth year in a row, the Hurricanes garnered ITA Academic Team distinction. The honor goes to programs whose players cumulatively combine for a GPA of at least 3.20 for the academic year, a number Miami easily exceeded with a 3.587 mark.
Additionally, the Hurricanes set a program record with eight players tabbed as ITA Scholar-Athletes, a recognition that is given to varsity letter winners with a GPA of 3.50 or above.
Miami’s prior top mark was six honorees, set in 2013 and tied in both 2015 and 2016. Eight of the team’s 10 letter winners made the cut this season.
The list of selections included sophomore Sara Culbertson, junior Sharon Danquah, senior Sinead Lohan, junior Ana Madcur, sophomore Estela Perez-Somarriba, freshman Pamela Richter, junior Daniella Roldan and freshman Sofia Sewing.
This is the third time Madcur has made the ITA Scholar-Athlete list, as well as the second time for both Perez-Somarriba and Roldan.
