Langmo and Soriano Mark Final Rise of 2018

CORAL GABLES, Fla.  After earning the program’s first NCAA Doubles Championship victory in a decade, University of Miami men’s tennis senior Christian Langmo and freshman Adria Soriano concluded the season as the No. 29 doubles pair in the nation, as announced by Oracle/ITA.

Langmo and Soriano were the Hurricanes’ (15-13, 4-8 ACC) leading duo, playing  at No. 1 for all matches but one after debuting March 18 and finishing the spring season with a 7-8 record. The triumph over then-No. 37 Oscar Mesquida and Adam Sanjurjo or Arkansas, 7-5, 6-3, in Winston-Salem, N.C. last Thursday was Langmo and Soriano’s sixth against ranked opposition.

The pair’s highest-ranked victory of the season, 6-3 against then-No. 11 Eero Vasa and Korey Lovett of UCF, came in their very debut, as they went on to rack up a 5-2 mark against ranked doubles pairs, including four victories against top-40 duos, three top-20 wins and a couple of top-15 triumphs.

Langmo and Soriano peaked at No. 18 in the rankings on April 10, making them the program’s first doubles pair in the top 20 since All-Americans Daniel Vallverdu and Carl Sundberg on Jan. 6, 2009.

Soriano, a Second Team All-ACC selection, was the Canes’ only player to finish the year ranked in singles, retaining his No. 77 spot for the final edition. The achievement makes him the highest-ranked rookie in a final singles rankings since Todd Widom, who was ranked No. 22 in 2002. Four-time All-American Daniel Vallverdu is the only other Miami player to finish his rookie singles season ranked in the last 16 years, wrapping the 2006 campaign at No. 109 in the nation.

The ACC was represented by 25 players in the final 125-player singles rankings of the season, with 14 in the top 50, five in the top 25 and three in the top 10. ACC Player of the Year William Blumberg of North Carolina and the national singles champion Petros Chrysochos of Wake Forest lead the way as second and third, respectively.
