W. Tennis Takes on LIU Brooklyn in NCAA Opener
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team begins play in the NCAA Team Championship Friday at 2 p.m. against LIU Brooklyn at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Making its 23rd straight appearance in the tournament, tied for the 10th-longest streak in the country, No. 16-ranked and No. 16-seeded Miami (16-7, 11-3 ACC) is hosting the first two rounds for the 13th time in 14 years.

The Hurricanes, who have never previously faced LIU Brooklyn, are 23-1 all-time in NCAA Team Championship home matches, including 12-0 in the Round of 64. Miami has tallied a shutout victory in each of its past 13 NCAA openers and has reached the Round of 32 the last 16 seasons.
Overall, the Hurricanes are 51-32 in NCAA Team Championship play and have advanced to the Sweet 16 in 11 of the past 12 years.
Miami features two nationally-ranked singles players in sophomore Estela Perez-Somarriba and senior Sinead Lohan. The former, who earned ACC Player of the Year distinction, is third in the country. Lohan, a four-time All-ACC honoree, checks in at No. 69 in the Oracle/ITA rankings.
In doubles, 17th-year head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews’ team has two ranked duos, both including Perez-Somarriba. She pairs with junior Ana Madcur in the No. 51 position and with junior Daniella Roldan in the No. 68 spot.
LIU Brooklyn heads into Friday’s match with a 17-4 (5-0 NEC) record on the season and has won nine of its past 10 outings. The Blackbirds, making their second straight NCAA Team Championship trip, do not have any ranked players or pairs, but Anna Grigoryan is the two-time reigning NEC Player of the Year.
