Langmo and Soriano Earn an NCAA Doubles Championship Bid
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Senior Christian Langmo and freshman Adria Soriano of the University of Miami men’s tennis team have been selected to participate in the 2018 NCAA Doubles Championship.
They earned an at-large bid to the tournament, which is set to be held May 24-28 in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Canes’ duo (5-6, 4-4 ACC) is ranked No. 22 in the Oracle/ITA rankings and holds a 4-0 against nationally-ranked opposition this season.
The latest bid is Miami’s eighth to the NCAA Individual Championships during the program’s Atlantic Coast Conference era – four in singles and four in doubles.
Langmo, a senior, and Soriano, a freshman, are the first Miami doubles pair to enter the 32-duo field since 2008, when Daniel Vallverdu and Carl Sundberg advanced to the Round of 16 as the No. 3 seed.
The Miami pair has three top-20 victories, including one against then-No. 11 Korey Lovett and Eero Vasa of UCF in their debut, earning ACC Doubles Team of the Week honors on March 19. Lovett and Vasa clinched one of the eight automatic qualifications to the 32-pair tournament.
Langmo and Soriano are one of the five ACC doubles pairs to make the field, along with an alternate tandem from conference champion Wake Forest. North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Louisville and Virginia Tech are the other ACC teams sending representatives to Winston-Salem.
Miami’s top pair met one of those tandems, Louisville’s then-No. 14 Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn, in the regular season, and recorded a 6-3 victory in Miami’s 4-3 triumph in Coral Gables.
The announcement comes a day after No. 39 Miami earned the program’s 23rd NCAA Team Championship bid and was drawn to face North Florida in Gainesville, Fla., in the opening round on May 12.
