W. Tennis Jumps to Season-Best No. 15 Ranking
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team moved up two places to No. 15 in this week’s Oracle/ITA rankings, as announced Tuesday afternoon.
The ranking is the highest of the season for Miami (15-6, 11-3 ACC) and its top mark since placing No. 12 on Jan. 25, 2017.
Miami is one of six ACC teams in the top 30, alongside second-ranked North Carolina, third-ranked Duke, fourth-ranked Georgia Tech, No. 18 Florida State and No. 20 Virginia. Additionally, No. 27 Syracuse, No. 34 Wake Forest, No. 38 NC State and No. 40 Clemson are ranked.
Sophomore Estela Perez-Somarriba held her position as the third-ranked singles player in the nation. She leads a group of eight ACC players in the top 25, four of whom are in the top seven. Senior Sinead Lohan comes in at No. 64 on this week’s singles list, the same mark she held on April 10.
Miami has two ranked doubles pairs this week, with both featuring Perez-Somarriba. She teams with junior Ana Madcur in the No. 45 spot and with junior Daniella Roldan in the No. 79 positon.
The fourth-seeded Hurricanes will open ACC Championship play Friday at 9 a.m. in Cary, N.C., with their opponent still to be determined.
