W. Tennis Caps Regular Season at Louisville, Notre Dame

CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami women’s tennis team is set to wrap up its regular season slate this weekend with a two-match road trip.

First, No. 17 Miami (13-6, 9-3 ACC) faces Louisville Friday at 3 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville, Ky. The Hurricanes then travel to Notre Dame, Ind., where they take on Notre Dame Sunday at noon at the Courtney Tennis Center.

Miami is 3-0 all-time against Louisville, defeating the Cardinals by a combined score of 18-3 over the past three seasons. In the most recent affair, the Hurricanes notched a 5-2 road win on April 7, 2017.

The all-time series between Miami and Notre Dame is even at 11, with the Hurricanes sporting a 1-5 road record. After dropping eight of the first 10 meetings, Miami is 9-3 over the last 12, including 7-1 in the past eight. Most recently, the Fighting Irish logged a 5-2 home victory on March 26, 2017.

Under the guidance of 17th-year head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews, Miami features two nationally-ranked singles players. Sophomore Estela Perez-Somarriba places third on the Oracle/ITA list and senior Sinead Lohan checks in at No. 57.

In doubles, the Hurricanes have four ranked pairs, led by Perez-Somarriba and junior Ana Madcur at No. 36. Perez-Somarriba also partners with junior Daniella Roldan in the No. 78 spot, while Madcur appears on the list again at No. 81 with Lohan. Sophomore Dominika Paterova and freshman Ulyana Shirokova hold the No. 85 spot.

Louisville heads into the weekend at 13-10 (3-9 ACC) on the season after dropping seven consecutive matches. The Cardinals do not have any ranked singles players, but Mariana Humberg and Abbie Pahz place No. 45 on the doubles list.

Notre Dame is 11-12 (2-10 ACC) thus far in 2018 and snapped a nine-match losing streak Wednesday against IUPUI. The Fighting Irish have no players in the singles rankings, but feature a ranked doubles duo in Cameron Corse and Zoe Spence at No. 89.

If Miami wins both matches this weekend, it will earn the No. 4 seed and a double-bye at the ACC Championship, which is set for April 25-29 in Cary, N.C. The Hurricanes have finished in the top four all 13 seasons they have been in the ACC, dating back to 2005.
