CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team is once again heavily featured in the Oracle/ITA rankings, as announced Tuesday afternoon.
Miami (13-6, 9-3 ACC) checks in at No. 17 in the country, tied for its second-highest position of the season.
Despite adding 1.53 ranking points, the Hurricanes dropped one spot from last week and now sit 0.04 points behind the new No. 16-ranked team, Kansas.
Miami is one of eight ACC teams in the top 30, along with top-ranked North Carolina, third-ranked Georgia Tech, fourth-ranked Duke, No. 18 Florida State, No. 22 Virginia, No. 27 Syracuse and No. 38 Wake Forest. Additionally, NC State and Clemson are also ranked, placing No. 33 and No. 48, respectively.
The Hurricanes, who are 6-3 against their fellow ranked ACC teams, have two singles players in the national rankings.
Sophomore Estela Perez-Somarriba held her spot at third nationally and moved from 3.03 points out of second to 0.04 points back of Florida Atlantic’s Aliona Bolsova. She headlines a trio of ACC players in the top five for the second week in a row.
Senior Sinead Lohan continued her ascent up the rankings and now holds the No. 57 position, a seven-spot increase from last week. She has jumped 59 places since checking in at No. 116 on Feb. 20 and this mark is her best in any release of 2018.
For the third week in a row, Miami and UCLA are the only schools with four ranked doubles pairs. Perez-Somarriba and junior Ana Madcur lead the way at No. 36, a three-spot improvement.
Perez-Somarriba and junior Daniella Roldan are next at No. 78, their same position as last week. Lohan and Madcur check in at No. 81, a slight four-spot drop, while sophomore Dominika Paterova and freshman Ulyana Shirokova moved up three places to No. 85 in the country.
