W. Tennis Faces Virginia Tech on Senior Day

CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami women’s tennis team will play its last home match of the regular season Sunday against Virginia Tech.

No. 16 Miami (12-6, 8-3 ACC) is set to take on the Hokies at 11 a.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The contest will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra HERE and live stats will be available HERE.

Sunday’s match is senior day for the Hurricanes and Sinead Lohan, a two-time ITA All-American and a 2016 NCAA Singles Championship semifinalist, will be recognized prior to the match.

The Hurricanes sport an 18-1 all-time record against Virginia Tech, including a 10-0 record at home. Half of Miami’s wins in the series have come via shutout. In the most recent matchup, the Hurricanes logged a 5-2 road win on April 21, 2017.

Miami, led by 17th-year head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews, heads into the weekend with two players featured in the national singles rankings. Sophomore Estela Perez-Somarriba is third in the country, the best mark by a Hurricane in nine years, and Lohan checks in at No. 64.

The Hurricanes are one of two teams with four ranked doubles pairs, headlined by Perez-Somarriba and junior Ana Madcur at No. 39. Lohan and Madcur place No. 77, followed by Perez-Somarriba and junior Daniella Roldan at No. 78. Finally, sophomore Dominika Paterova and freshman Ulyana Shirokova hold the No. 88 position.

Virginia Tech, which plays Friday at No. 18 Florida State before coming to Coral Gables, is 12-7 (3-7 ACC) on the season. The Hokies’ lone ranked singles player is Natalie Novotna at No. 62 and they do not have a ranked doubles pair.

After squaring off with the Hokies, Miami hits the road for its final two matches of the year, first playing Louisville April 20 at 3 p.m. in Louisville, Ky.
