Miami Men's Tennis Rises in Oracle/ITA Rankings

CORAL GABLES, Fla.  The University of Miami men’s tennis team continued its rise in the Oracle/ITA rankings this season, checking in at No. 43 Tuesday to mark its second season-high achievement in as many weeks.

The Hurricanes (11-7, 2-4 ACC) rose three spots from last week after defeating then-No. 38 Louisville Sunday, 4-1, for their second top-40 victory of the season.

For the first time this season, the Canes have two representatives in the singles rankings, as freshman Adria Soriano debuts at No. 68 in the nation. Soriano holds a 12-2 singles record and rides the team’s longest win streak of five matches. The freshman joins his doubles partner No. 107 Christian Langmo in the rankings. Langmo, 11-4 in singles this season, is ranked for third straight edition of the ranking with best achievement so far this season coming at No. 90.

Soriano and Langmo were ranked in doubles play as well, ascending 24 spots to check in at No. 26. The 24-spot rise is the largest by a tandem ranked in the top 50 in the last edition of the rankings.

Miami is one of nine ranked Atlantic Coast Conference teams this week, five of which are in the top-25. Top-ranked Wake Forest is followed by No. 6 North Carolina, No. 12 Florida State, No. 18 Duke and No. 25 NC State. No. 30 Notre Dame, No. 40 Louisville and No. 42 Virginia are also featured in the top 50 nationally.

The Hurricanes have four contests against currently ranked opponents on their remaining ACC slate, beginning with a road contest against Virginia Friday. The match, which is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va., will begin Miami’s four-match road trip.
