Men's Tennis Hosts No. 23 NC State

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team will close out the week against another top-20 opponent, hosting NC State at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center Sunday.

THE SERIES
The Hurricanes (8-7, 0-4 ACC) have a 14-6 edge in the series against NC State, with five of NC State’s victories coming in the last six meetings. Last year in Raleigh, N.C., the Canes fell 5-2, while the Wolfpack took the last meeting in Coral Gables by minimum margins, 4-3, in 2016. Miami’s last win in the series came in 2014, when the then-No. 72 Hurricanes upset No. 31 NC State by the same margin.
 
HIGHLIGHTING MIAMI’S 2018 SEASON
-Senior Christian Langmo and freshman Adria Soriano defeated No. 11 Eero Vasa and Korey Lovett of UCF in their doubles debut to check in at No. 50 in this week’s Oracle/ITA rankings.

-Langmo, who also has two ACC victories, ascended nine spots to check in at No. 90 in the Oracle/ITA rankings this week, the highest by a Miami player this season. Freshmen Soriano (No. 99) and Jankulovski (No. 101) hae also been ranked in singles play this season.

-On March 13, Miami was ranked among the nation’s top 50 for the first time since April 15, 2014, checking in at No. 50.

-Miami freshmen have captured 26 singles wins this spring. Freshman Bojan Jankulovski leads the team this spring, bolstering an 11-4 singles record. He has team-best three singles wins in ACC play.

-Miami’s 6-2 start to the season was the Hurricanes’ best start since 2013. 
 
-The Hurricanes, who are 7-1 at home, posted a seven-match win streak in Coral Gables for the first time since 2014, when the Hurricanes won nine straight between Feb. 22 and March 25.

-On March 11, freshman Pablo Aycart made his dual singles debut with a 6-3, 6-2, victory over Cleveland State’s Mirko Radosevic.

LAST TIME OUT
On Friday, Miami pushed No. 1 Wake Forest to the limit, but fell 4-3, with the match decided by the only three-set match, which came at the No. 3 position. Soriano earned his second top-30 singles victory by downing Mansouri in straight sets, including an epic 13-11 tiebreaker in the second set. The got off to a good start, winning their first doubles point against conference competition.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Wolfpack (11-4, 1-3 ACC) also suffered a loss to open the week, falling 4-0 to No. 20 Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla. That was NC State’s first road loss of the year after six straight wins away from Raleigh this season. Sunday’s match closes out a three-match road streak for NC State, which began at Virginia Tech on March 18, when the Wolfpack earned its first ACC victory of the season, 4-3.

No. 24 Alexis Galarneau is NC State’s only ranked singles player. He and Michael Ogden form one of the two ranked tandems, checking in at No. 63. Brothers Igor and Ivan Saveljic are ranked three spots below Miami’s Langmo and Soriano and are tabbed No. 53 in the nation.

UP NEXT
The Canes continue a four-match homestand with a non-conference matchup against South Alabama next Friday at 3 p.m. Two days later they return to conference action with a contest against Louisville at noon.
