W. Tennis Travels to No. 12 Oklahoma State, Baylor
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team will play a pair of road matches in the Southwest this weekend.
First, No. 17 Miami (2-1) meets No. 12 Oklahoma State Saturday at 11:30 a.m. ET in Stillwater, Okla. Live video from the Greenwood Tennis Center will be available HERE. To view live stats, click HERE, select the match and enter “cowboys” as the password.
The Hurricanes then take on Baylor, receiving votes in the Oracle/ITA poll, Sunday at 2 p.m. ET in Waco, Texas. Live video from the Hurd Tennis Center can be found HERE, while live stats are available HERE.
Miami is 12-2 all-time against Oklahoma State, including 1-1 on the road. The teams have met just once in the past two decades, with the Hurricanes logging a 4-3 victory in Madison, Wis., on Feb. 7, 2016, as a part of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
The Hurricanes sport a 7-8 all-time mark versus Baylor, including a 2-4 ledger in road matchups. This is the 12th consecutive year the sides are meeting at least once. Most recently, the Lady Bears tallied a 4-2 triumph on Feb. 24, 2017 in Columbus, Ohio.
Under the direction of 17th-year head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews, Miami features two nationally-ranked singles players. Sophomore Estela Perez-Somarriba is No. 16 in the country, while senior Sinead Lohan holds the No. 58 position.
In addition, Perez-Somarriba pairs with junior Ana Madcur to form the No. 33 doubles duo in the Oracle/ITA rankings.
The Cowgirls, who made the national championship match in 2016, are 6-1 on the year. They have four ranked singles players in No. 37 Vladica Babic, No. 91 Marina Guinart, No. 121 Katarina Stresnakova and No. 122 Sofia Blanco. In doubles, Babic and Blanco are ranked No. 15 nationally.
Thus far in 2018, the Lady Bears are 2-4 and have lost four straight matches. At No. 101 in the singles rankings, Livia Kraus is Baylor’ lone representative on the Oracle/ITA lists.
Following its matchups with Oklahoma State and Baylor, Miami meets Georgia State in Fort Myers, Fla., Feb. 24 at 2 p.m.
