CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami women’s tennis team is set to play its first two dual matches of the spring this weekend in Auburn, Ala., for ITA Kick-Off Weekend.

No. 17 Miami, seeded second, will meet third-seeded UC Santa Barbara Saturday at 4 p.m. ET in its opening match. The Hurricanes then take on either No. 13 Auburn, the top seed, or fourth-seeded Tulane Sunday.

The team that posts two victories in Auburn will earn a berth to the prestigious ITA National Team Indoor Championship, held Feb. 9-12 in Madison, Wis.

Miami had its 12-year streak of appearances in the field snapped last season and is seeking its 17th overall trip to the elite tournament.

The Hurricanes are 1-0 all-time against both UC Santa Barbara and Tulane, as well as 10-2 versus Auburn.

Miami features a pair of nationally-ranked singles players in sophomore Estela Perez-Somarriba, the reigning ACC Player of the Week, and senior Sinead Lohan. The two, both former NCAA Singles Championship semifinalists, check in at No. 36 and No. 41, respectively.

The Gauchos are 1-1 on the season and have a 6-1 victory at USC on their resume. They do not have any ranked singles players or doubles pairs.

The Green Wave enters the weekend at 2-0 with a pair of 4-0 home wins. Like UC Santa Barbara, Tulane does not have any representatives in the national rankings.

The Tigers sport a 3-0 record with three 4-0 home triumphs thus far. Jaeda Daniel is the highest-ranked player on the roster, placing No. 53 in the Oracle/ITA rankings, and is followed by Taylor Russo at No. 77. In doubles, Russo teams with Alizee Michaud, who was ninth in singles in the fall, at No. 31 nationally.

Sunday’s consolation match is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET, while the championship match will take place at 2 p.m. ET.
