@CanesWTennis Moves up Six Places in ITA Rankings
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team ascended six spots in this week’s ITA rankings, as announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Hurricanes made the move from No. 45 in the country up to No. 39 on the list, good for their second-best increase between weeks this season. Head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews’ team was one of just three to rise at least six positions in Tuesday’s poll.
Miami closed its home slate over the weekend by topping then-No. 46 Clemson, 4-3, Friday and then shutting out Pittsburgh, 7-0, Sunday.
In singles, Miami continues to have two ranked individuals. Junior Sinead Lohan, the reigning ACC Player of the Week, is No. 17 on the list. Freshman Estela Perez-Somarriba, who boasts a 17-3 record this spring, comes in at No. 38.
The Hurricanes again have one nationally-ranked doubles pair, as Lohan and redshirt senior Maci Epstein held steady at No. 64 overall.
Miami will be back in action Friday in Blacksburg, Va., as it will face Virginia Tech at 3 p.m., to begin the final weekend of the regular season.
