@CanesWTennis Faces Pittsburgh in Home Finale
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team is set to play its last home match of the regular season Sunday morning.
No. 45 Miami will host Pittsburgh at 10 a.m., at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Redshirt senior Maci Epstein will be recognized before the match.
The Hurricanes are 3-0 against the Panthers over the last three seasons with a 19-2 edge in points. Prior to Pittsburgh joining the ACC in 2013-14, the teams had never previously met. In last season’s affair, Miami logged a 6-1 road win on March 20, 2016.
Head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews’ roster features a pair of nationally-ranked singles players. Junior Sinead Lohan paces the Hurricanes in the No. 13 spot, with freshman Estela Perez-Somarriba not far behind at No. 34.
In addition, Miami (7-10, 5-6 ACC) has one duo in the ITA’s doubles rankings, with Epstein and Lohan checking in at No. 64.
Pittsburgh heads into the matchup with a record of 3-13 (0-12 ACC). The Panthers do not have any ranked players or pairs.
Alex Santos, in his fourth year as Pittsburgh’s head coach, spent the previous four seasons on Yaroshuk-Tews’ staff at Miami, helping the Hurricanes reach the Elite Eight and finish top-10 in each of them. He was the ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year in 2012-13.
Sunday’s contest will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra HERE, while live stats for the match will be available HERE.
At 9 a.m., one hour prior to the start of the match, there will be an Easter egg hunt. All Girl Scouts in attendance will receive a patch of their choosing.
