Fisher Named to U.S. U-23 National Team Camp

CORAL GABLES, Fla. Kristina Fisher of the University of Miami soccer team has been selected to participate in an upcoming U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team training camp, as announced Tuesday by U.S. Soccer.

Fisher, a rising sophomore, is among the 20 players, including one of seven midfielders, on the roster for the camp, which will be held April 2-8 in Orlando, Fla.

“I am really excited for Kristina,” Miami head coach Mary-Frances Monroe said. “She had a great freshman season at Miami and her hard work has paid off. It’s an honor to represent your country at the highest level.”

As a part of the one-week camp, the team will face UCF April 5 before taking on the NWSL’s Orlando Pride in a closed match two days later.

Fisher is one of four ACC players on the camp roster, while three others from the conference were tabbed for the Portland, Ore., camp held the prior week. Of them, only Fisher and NC State’s Tziarra King have just one year of collegiate experience.

A 5-foot-5-inch standout from Jupiter, Fla., Fisher excelled in her opening campaign at Miami. The NSCAA College Player of the Week after the first weekend of her career, Fisher went on to be selected to the All-ACC Freshman Team and the All-ACC Academic Team.

Fisher, who played at both the forward and midfield spots, led the Hurricanes in assists (six), while placing second in points (20) and goals (seven). The first two numbers were both top-10 marks in the ACC.
