Miami Set to Host Boston U. and Georgia Tech
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis program will host Boston University and No. 17 Georgia Tech this weekend at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Friday’s 4 p.m. matchup will be the third meeting between Miami and Boston University. The Hurricanes lead the all-time series 2-0, with UM winning the most recent matchup over the Terriers, 6-1, on March 15, 2014.
Sunday’s 12 p.m. matchup will mark the 46th meeting between the Hurricanes and the Yellow Jackets. Miami boasts an all-time record of 35-10 against Georgia Tech.
Miami will enter the weekend with junior Piotr Lomacki at No. 67 in the ITA singles rankings, as released Tuesday.
Last season, Georgia Tech edged the Canes, 5-2, in a match featuring four current Hurricanes and Yellow Jackets going head-to-head in singles play. Miami senior Jesse Flores faced Daniel Yun, earning the victory, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, while junior Piotr Lomacki fell against then-No. 11 Christopher Eubanks, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
Georgia Tech features two nationally-ranked singles players, including Eubanks, who holds the No. 7 spot in the country and No. 87 Andrew Li. Carlos Benito and Carlos Divar are ranked No. 50 in doubles.
The Canes (5-3, 0-1 ACC) are riding a two game winning streak into this weekend’s matchups, most recently downing East Tennessee State, 5-2. Miami opened the match strong with a pair of doubles victories, to head into singles play with the one point advantage. In singles play, after ETSU evened the match at 1-point apiece, Hurricanes took back the lead it would not look back on when junior Christian Langmo defeated No. 90 Diego Nunez 6-3, 6-2. Junior Nile Clark gave Miami a two-point advantage, as well as match point after earning a straight-set victory over David Gonzalez, 7-5, 6-2.Miami then sealed the match when Flores defeated Juan Lugo, 6-4, 6-2.
Next weekend the Hurricanes will conclude their 11-match home stretch when they host No. 32 Minnesota Friday, March 17 at 10 a.m. The Canes will then travel to Tallahassee, Fla., in a battle against in-state conference rival No. 36 Florida State Sunday at 1 p.m.
