@CanesWTennis Vaults 17 Spots to No. 27
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – No program in the nation made a larger move in the ITA rankings this week than the University of Miami women’s tennis team.
Miami (4-4, 3-0 ACC) ascended from No. 44 in the country all the way to No. 27, good for a 17-spot increase, better than any other team on either the men’s or women’s side.
The Hurricanes are coming off a 2-0 week in which they defeated a pair of opponents then ranked in the top 30.
Friday, Miami edged then-No. 26 NC State, 4-3, at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews then guided her team to a 4-0 triumph over then-No. 28 Wake Forest two days later, also in Coral Gables.
In the singles rankings, junior Sinead Lohan retained her position as the No. 7 player in the country. She has been in the top seven for the entire 2016-17 season.
Meanwhile, freshman Estela Perez-Somarriba moved up 10 spots to a career-best No. 66 position, eclipsing her prior high of No. 70.
The Hurricanes will return to the court March 14 when they take on eighth-ranked Georgia Tech in Atlanta.
