Miami Set to Open ACC Play Against Clemson
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis program will open ACC play Sunday when it hosts Clemson University at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The noon matchup will mark the 52nd meeting between the Hurricanes and the Tigers. Clemson holds the one match edge in the all-time series, 26-25, winning the previous five matchups.
Last season, Clemson edged the Canes, 4-3, in a match featuring four current Hurricanes and Tigers going head-to-head in singles play. Miami junior Piotr Lomacki faced Alex Favrot, earning the straight-set victory, 7-5, 6-1, while senior Jesse Flores fell against Daffra Sanon, 2-6, 3-6.
No. 63 Lomacki enters Sunday’s match as the only competitor ranked in the ITA singles and doubles polls.
The Canes (3-2) went 1-1 last weekend, earning a 5-2 victory over FAU, after falling to No. 16 Mississippi State, 0-4. Against the Owls, Miami opened the match strong with a pair of doubles victories, to head into singles play with the one point advantage. In singles, the top of the Canes lineup took command of the match. At No. 1, Lomacki defeated Andrei Morin-Kougoucheff, 6-4, 6-2, while on court four senior Max Andrews took down Felipe Frias, 6-3, 6-1.
At No. 2, junior Christian Langmo sealed the victory, defeating Remi Chancerel, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), while Flores earned a bonus point for Miami against Anthony Schohn, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5).
Next weekend the Hurricanes will host FGCU Saturday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m.
