Lomacki and Andrews Ranked in ITA Pre-Spring Polls
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami men’s tennis teammates, Piotr Lomacki and Max Andrews, have made appearances in the Oracle ITA poll for both the singles and doubles rankings.
“It’s always good to get guys in the rankings. Both Piotr and Max have big goals this season, so this is a step in the right direction,” head coach Aljosa Piric said. “We look forward to kicking the season off, and I know everyone’s focus is on our team and a strong start to this year. We are all excited and look forward to competing as a unit!”
Lomacki, a member of the 2016 All-ACC Second Team, has been ranked the No. 86 singles player in the nation and he joins Andrews at No. 22 in the doubles poll.
Lomacki, from Warsaw, Poland, returns to the polls from the preseason, after leading the team with six singles victories. After a strong 2016 spring campaign, he was selected for the NCAA Singles Championship, the first Hurricane to make the field since 2009.
Andrews, from Manchester, England, teamed up with Lomacki during the fall semester at the 2016 ITA Regional Championships.
Seeded third overall in the doubles main draw, the duo of Lomacki and Andrews opened play with a first round bye before facing Georgia State’s Jannis Koeke and Giles Hussey in the second round. The pair walked away with an 8-3 victory advancing to the Round of 16 against Jan Zielinski and Walker Duncan of Georgia.
In the Round of 16 the duo walked away victorious in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (4) to advance to the quarterfinals against Florida’s Johannes Ingildsen and Alfredo Perez. They dropped the match 1-8.
The Hurricanes are set to open the season in two weeks, Friday, Jan. 20, at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center against St. John’s.
