@CanesFutbol Caps Regular Season at No. 12 Irish

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami soccer team will play its last match of the 2016 regular season Thursday night at No. 12 Notre Dame.

The Hurricanes and Fighting Irish are set to square off at 7 p.m., at Alumni Stadium in Notre Dame, Ind.

Miami is 2-1 over the last three years against the Fighting Irish since they joined the ACC. The Hurricanes earned a 2-0 home win over third-ranked Notre Dame in 2013 and notched a 1-0 victory over No. 14 Notre Dame in double overtime last year.

The Hurricanes, receiving votes in the NSCAA Poll, are 10-7-0 (5-4-0 ACC) entering Thursday night’s contest and have already cemented both a berth in the ACC Championship and the most conference wins in a season in program history.

With a victory over Notre Dame, Miami can finish as high as fifth in the ACC, depending on the results of North Carolina and Virginia’s matches. With a tie or a loss, the Hurricanes will conclude the season seventh in the conference after being picked to finish last in the preseason.

Miami ranks third in the ACC in assists (40), fifth in points (104), fifth in goals (32), tied for fifth in goals allowed (13) and tied for fifth in shutouts (seven).

Notre Dame brings an 11-2-4 (6-1-2 ACC) mark into the regular season finale and has conceded just three goals in its first nine conference matches. The Fighting Irish went 14-5-1 (6-4-0 ACC) in 2015 and reached the NCAA Championship for the 23rd straight year, advancing to the second round.
