Lachowecki Earns NSCAA and ACC Weekly Accolades
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Gracie Lachowecki of the University of Miami women’s soccer team has garnered a pair of major honors following her stellar performances against Louisville and No. 25 Virginia Tech.
The senior forward was named both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Player of the Week and the ACC Offensive Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by both groups.
“In the past two years, Gracie has come through for us in special moments. This weekend was such an important one,” Miami head coach Mary-Frances Monroe said. “We couldn’t be more excited or proud of Gracie and what she has done for us as a player.”
In the 3-0 victory over Louisville, Lachowecki tallied assists on two of junior forward Ronnie Johnson’s three goals. It marked the first multi-assist outing of Lachowecki’s stellar career.
Lachowecki then helped Miami (10-7-0, 5-4-0 ACC) earn its second top-25 win of the year, scoring both goals in a thrilling comeback triumph against Virginia Tech. She scored the equalizer in the 85th minute and then buried the golden goal in the 102nd minute, just 63 seconds into double overtime.
Miami’s wins over the Cardinals and Hokies clinched both a perfect 5-0 record at home in ACC play and a berth in the ACC Championship for the first time since 2012.
“Seeing that it was senior day, it was only fitting that Gracie was the one who put the team on her shoulders and guided us to the ACC tournament,” Monroe said.
After her two goals and two assists last week, Lachowecki now ranks third all-time at Miami in goals (24) and fourth in points (54). She is also the lone player in program history to record double-digit goals in multiple seasons, notching 12 last year and currently owning 11 in 2016.
The NSCAA distinction is the first weekly national honor for Lachowecki, who was recently ranked as the No. 44 player in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer. This is the fourth time the Evansville, Ind., native has been named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week, including the second occasion this season.
Lachowecki is the third Hurricane to win NSCAA College Player of the Week this season, following freshman forward Kristina Fisher (Aug. 23) and redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce (Sept. 6).
The Hurricanes, who are assured of a top-seven finish in the ACC, wrap up the regular season Thursday night at 7 p.m., at No. 12 Notre Dame.
